Concurrency Control In Rule-based Process-centered Environments
N.S. Bargllouti · 2005
I have investigated the concurrency control problem in rule-based process-centered software development environments. I have constructed an architecture for such environments based on the MARVEL rule-based SDE. klost of the constructs of this architecture have been implemented in the first multi-user version of MARVEL. It is expected that the remaining constructs will also be implemented in R/IARVEL at some point in the future. MARVEL provides process-centered assistance by loading specifications of both the data model of a software project and the project's development process. These specifications are written in the MARVEL Strategy Language (MSL) and loaded into MARVEL , producing a project-specific instance of MARVEL . MSL models the software process in terms of rules. Each rule prescribes a development activity by defining the condition that must be satisfied before the activity can be carried out, and the effects of executing the activity on the project components. These components are abstracted as objects and stored in a database. MARVEL presents its users (developers of the project whose specifications were loaded) with commands that correspond to the rules. The users request commands, which MARVEL executes by firing the corresponding rules. Automated assistance is provided by a chaining engine that might fire a chain of rules in response to a user command, automatically performing some development activities that the user would have otherwise done manually.
