Reliability analysis for one-turn and deflection crossbar architectures and distributed fault recovery scheme

Min Seok Oh, P.S. Min · 2002

Two types of crossbar architecture, i.e. a one-turn crossbar and a deflection crossbar, are compared in light of reliability over a single fault. The analysis results show the one-turn crossbar architecture is slightly more robust than the deflection crossbar architecture for a single fault. We also propose a distributed fault recovery algorithm for the case of the deflection crossbar. Simulations show that the overall average cell loss is reduced by 32.6% when the algorithm is applied with a traffic intensity of 0.7. The required minimum clock rate with the recovery algorithm is calculated to be increased by 28.8% compared to the one without the algorithm.
