Design of a multilayered OSI system

In order to realise the objectives of OSI, it needs to be implemented in a wide variety of systems. The OSI Reference model provides a lot of freedom to the implementor in realising the individual layers and in structuring the overall system. This paper presents a design strategy for the complete system and discusses some implementation options in the Transport protocol (class 4) which can enhance the performance of the system.
