The PVC-1 was developed in order to provide a number of user features in consumer and commercial grade Photo CD players. It accepts decoded data in the Photo CD format from a CD player mechanism, stores it into a conventional 256K x 16 DRAM using one of eight selectable modes, and reads it from the DRAM to generate video rasters in either M-NTSC or B-PAL formats. An interface for an external eight bit microcontroller is included for passing control and status information and to allow certain types of non-Photo CD data to be passed from the CD player to the microcontroller.
