A Game-Theoretic Approach to Utility-Based Power Control in Multi-Carrier DS/CDMA Systems

Fang Lin, Rui J. P. de Figueiredo · 2007

One major challenge in contemporary networks is that energy constitutes a limited and yet a crucial resource. In this paper, we develop an energy-efficient power control game for the multi-carrier (MC) direct sequence (DS) code division multiple access (CDMA) system. Here, we pursue an efficient approach to power control in order to achieve high throughput at a cost of minimal energy consumed. Besides evaluating the Nash equilibrium in MC-DS/CDMA, we develop a new pricing strategy, which is shown to outperform previous pricing strategies without tuning or training procedure to avoid large computational complexity and processing delay. Finally, the simulation results have shown that the proposed approach achieves a significant improvement in quality of service (QoS) specified as the total system utility, and compared to the Nash equilibrium, the present algorithm is useful to combat multiple access interference (MAI) and AWGN noise power to maintain the satisfying performance.
