Metal particulate (MP) tape has many applications, not only to audio and video but also to data storage, because of its high density recording capability. The metal particles used in these tapes have multilayers to maintain the magnetic stability that makes fur reliability. Although acceleration tests have suggested that corrosion can cause instability in MP tape. it is not clear to what extent the acceleration test itself is responsible for the problem. In order to clarify this point., we investigated the long-term stability of MP tape at high temperature and humidity and fitted the resulting data to two theoretical models. The results allow us to estimate the tapes' archival life.
