Cryptographic Hash Functions and Low-Power Techniques for Embedded Hardware
An-Lun Huang, W.T. Penzhorn · 2005
Message Authentication Codes (MACs) are ways to ensure message integrity and validate authenticity. Most available MAC functions have been optimized for software efficiency, particularly for the 32-bit processing environment, where power consumption is not a matter of concern. However, embedded devices, such as wireless sensor nodes, have very limited processing and power resources. This paper investigates various cryptographic (keyed) hash functions to determine their suitabli1ityy for low-power purposes. This paper also gives a brief overview of the different techniques for low-power digital circuit designs.
