A report on the development of a medical device data language (MDDL) for the IEEE P1073 medical information bus (MIB)
Jan Wittenber · 2003
An overview of the medical information bus (MIB) medical device data language (MDDL) architecture is given. A primary concept in the architecture reference model (ARM) is the virtual medical device, an ISO (International Standards Organization) object-oriented abstraction. Device dialogue is based on transactive messages, which embed (groups of) elemental parameters. Parameters are named active objects, which in turn embed structured attributes. Denotative semantic is defined through several transform levels, including concrete and abstract semantic and syntax, and through N orders of detail. A parse tree-structured general semantic (data) model is used as a basis for normalization. Topological analysis indicates that standardization is facilitated by leveraging external languages and building in protocols that preserve semantic invariance through composition and transform.>
