SNP-ing Drugs to Size
Trisha Gura · Science · 2001
In addition to looking for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to disease (see main text), researchers are also embracing SNPs as a way to find the genetic underpinnings of people9s responses to drugs. In one of the first success stories in this new field, called pharmacogenetics, researchers have used SNPs to find genes that predict how quickly people can clear certain types of drugs and how susceptible they are to a drug9s side effects.
