Testing inductive user interfaces

Nie Smith, Clare Churcher, Theresa McLennan, A. E. McKinnon · 2003

In 2001 Microsoft issued guidelines for Inductive User Interfaces (IUI) [3] which have been employed in products such as Money 2003 and Windows XP. IUIs are task based interfaces where the user is led through a series of screens (often presented in a form analogous to web pages) in order to carry out a particular task. In this paper we present visualisation methods for defining pathways and suggest notations for recording the different routes users take to carry out a task.
