Dual-hop transmission with semi-blind amplify-and-forward relays over generalised η-μ fading channels

Osamah S. Badarneh · International Journal of Wireless and Mobile Computing · 2014

In this paper, we present a study on the end-to-end performance of dual-hop wireless communication systems equipped with semi-blind amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. Channels between source/relay terminals and relay/destination terminals are assumed to be independent, but not necessarily identically distributed, η–μ fading. Novel expressions for the Moment Generating Function (MGF), outage probability (OP) and generalised moments of the end-to-end Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) are explicitly derived. The influence of power imbalance, fading parameters, and average SNR between the hops on the overall system performance (in terms of average end-to-end SNR, OP, and average bit error rate) is studied through several representative numerical examples. The accuracy of the proposed mathematical analysis is verified via computer simulations.
