A CELLULAR AUTOMATON FOR ELASTICITY EQUATIONS

Cellular Automata are a very efficient numerical technique for fluid dynamics computations. In this paper, based on formal and physical analogies between the Navier-Stokes and the elasticity equations, we aim to construct a cellular automaton which simulates solid dynamics behavior. We show that, in order to describe elastic properties such as compressibility and distortion, which are typically not present in fluid dynamical simulations, higher order effects are to be taken into account.
