Abstract In your February 1960 issue, there appeared a review of the book “Introduction to Geophysics” by Dr. B. F. Howell, Jr. I want to point a flaw in the mathematical reasoning of the author. A publication of this and a subsequent explanation by the author will remove a great confusion in the minds of many readers.
