A DESIGN FOR PROCESS STATE PRESERVATION ON STORAGE UNIT FAILURE

J.A. Arulpragasam, Robert S. Swarz · 2005

This paper presents a technique for automatic checkpointing of memory data. It is of interest because its low impact on perfonpance and cost makes it especially useful in practical commercial caiputer systems aiming to provide high reliability, availability, and data integrity. The approach requires no reprocessing after recovery. It also provides iinnunity from memory controller failures by using redundancy across memory units. A single, functionally identical, redundant unit permits complete data recovery even after total failure of any one unit frm among any number.
