s promised in the last Scientific NetNews column, I will discuss selected papers of the 'Third International Symposium on Integrated Network Management'.The conference took place on 18-23 April 1993, in San Francisco. The eight main sessions dealt with 'Management Architectures', 'Distributed Systems Management', 'Implementing Management Architectures', 'Management Requirements-Experiences and Evaluation', 'Telecommunications Management' and 'Management Applications'.In spite of the overall thematical structure, some aspects were spread over several sessions as, for example, the semantic extensions to GDMO or the problem of complexity reduction by using some form of intelligent objects.Several remarkable papers treated the use of X500 for name resolution in management applications. This is interesting since quite a number of scientists are working on topics related to management distribution. In the following sections, I will try to summarize the highlights of the different sessions Rolf Kraemer works at Philips GmbH Forschungslaboratorien (Philips Research Labs at Aachen).by referring to some interesting papers.
