The objectives of this chapter are to (1) understand the distinction between architecture and infrastructure; (2) find out how the data warehouse infrastructure supports its architecture; (3) gain an insight into the components of the physical infrastructure; (4) review hardware and operating systems for the data warehouse; (5) study parallel processing options as applicable to the data warehouse; (6) discuss the server options in detail; (7) learn how to select the database management system (DBMS); and (8) review the types of tools needed for the data warehouse.
