Distribution Automation Analysis and Economic Evaluation Software System
J.C. Thompson, Robert Broadwater · 2005
An overview is presented of the concepts and features incorporated in a developed computer software package for the analysis and design of electrical distribution systems known as DANE. Using a combination of both the C language and Structured Query Language, statements, DANE integrates the key features of a database, graphical capabilities and analysis routines. Users are able to readily perform several complex tasks with minimal effort. A relational database structure is utilized to efficiently organize system data as well as allow for easy data retrieval. The majority of the database tables contain data pertaining to basic system components and collectively form the overall system's Parts Library. Using the basic system components together with the software's graphical capabilities, the user is able to build engineering circuit schematic diagrams representing electrical distribution circuits. The software currently includes routines which perform power flow, fault and reliability analysis calculations. These, analysis routines are utilized by the switching reconfiguration, the restoration and the protection system design algorithms. An economical evaluation algorithm is being developed to assist in cost analysis. The concepts of modular structured software are adopted to allow for user flexibility and to enhance the software's longevity.
