Affective Computing and Biometrics Based HCI Surveillance System

Ruihu Wang, Bin Fang · 2008

This paper focuses on a cross-disciplinal subject called affective computing. It proposed that visual surveillance systems based on affect recognition could play an important role in the development of future HCI biometric systems. The fundamental theories about affective computing were introduced first and emotion perception through facial expression was transferred to visual intelligent surveillance. Facial Expression representing humanpsilas inside emotional state could be perceived by analyzing real-time images captured from cameras deployed in various scenes for security. The interesting content then would be sent to monitor control center for operators to take further measures. Such kind of intelligent surveillance system is critical to provide a safer environment with minimal lost for a wide variety of applications. The big difference between traditional and proposed surveillance lies in the later pay more attention to prevent crime occurrence by making an intervention in time.
