A technique of data streams speculation for heterogeneous MC-DSPs
Dong Wang, Chen Shuming · 2009
This paper introduces a large-scale heterogeneous Multi-Core Digital Signal Processors (MC-DSP) prototype constructed with super-nodes, PolyDSP, and proposes a data speculation technique based on customized Data Streams Transmission Control Engine (DSTCE). This technique improves the efficiency of data streams transmissions within single super-node and among super-nodes. The innovation of this technique is that it combines a data speculation solution with the programming model of MC-DSPs, avoids complex cache coherence problems, and increases the parallelism between data processing and memory accessing for MC-DSPs significantly. Our simulation results show that, the performance of single super-node of PolyDSP is improved by 22% on average, and the performance of PolyDSP with two super-nodes based on DSTCE is 14% higher than that of based on CC-NUMA structure1.
