Software engineering reference framework

framework will be used to unify the basic concepts and the terminology in the various courses that cover topics of software engineering and in the OGOprojects, including the Software Engineering Project. The reference framework is not an attempt to present a “one size fits all” approach, that should be adopted by everyone. Therefore, it does not prescribe how systems should be developed or maintained. It is meant to relate topics of different courses in order to give students a better insight in the structure of computer science and software engineering. Parts of the terminology and the structure are derived from the IEEE software engineering standards [IEEE]. 2. Scope of the framework We start with some elementary concepts. Software engineering is concerned with the development and maintenance of software systems by the systematic application of engineering techniques in the software domain. The process that creates the system is called the development process and the process that keeps the system in operation is called the maintenance process. We
