Systemized Approach for Software Corrective Maintenance Effort Reduction

Muhammad Zubair Asghar, Imran Khan, Waqas Anwar, Bashir Ahmad · 2011

Enforcement of standards during entire cycle of software development has remained a challenge for stakeholders, but it can play pivotal role in reducing the efforts required for software maintenance phase. Corrective maintenance deals with error fixing or modification of a software performed after its delivery Studies conducted by different researchers speak that approximately more than 50% of the effort is spent on maintenance, out of which about 21% is required for corrective maintenance. In this paper, authors proposed and implemented a stepwise checklist approach to guide the stakeholders of all phases of software development. Before start of each SDLC phase, lists are filled by corresponding stake holder. Proposed strategy, called RCM (Reduced Corrective maintenance) model is validated empirically and statistically.
