Investigation of the mobile terminal optimum operating point in UMTS-FDD initial cell search procedure

S. Kourtis · 2002

The UMTS-FDD utilises a three-stage procedure for base station detection, timing synchronisation and code acquisition. This procedure in terms of error performance, synchronisation time and processing complexity largely depends upon three parameters, which correspond to the number of slots over which every stage is running. This paper examines the effect of these parameters on the synchronisation procedure and provides the means to evaluate the optimum operating point under which a mobile terminal is capable of obtaining synchronisation with the minimum synchronisation time and complexity.
