Computational Intelligence: Principles, Techniques and Applications
Jan Peters · The Computer Journal · 2007
Any student would wish for a book which fulfils the high goals as Computational Intelligence by Amit Konar from Jadavpur University (Calcutta, India) attempts to achieve. This is a comprehensive, up-to-date textbook on methods and research in the fields of Fuzzy Logic, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Evolutionary Algorithms and Reinforcement Learning. The book aims to be both an up-to-date reference as well as an outlook on important application and research topics; the latter might be highly interesting for graduate students just starting their own research career. However, despite his obvious hard work, the author does not fully succeed in achieving these ambitions. Already a first view into the book reveals an unbalanced representation leaning towards Fuzzy Logic. While this choice might be a result of personal strength, the omission of some of the most important research topics in the field of computational intelligence cannot be justified. During the last 15...
