Text recognition system for Japanese documents

A text recognition system for Japanese documents is described. The system is composed of a personal computer, which is used as a controller; an image scanner; and a recognition unit. There are four processing stages: text-line segmentation, character segmentation, character recognition, and postprocessing using the Japanese dictionary. Experimental results of the tests for Japanese handwritten technical reports are presented.>
