Technical and industrial challenges for signal processing in consumer electronics: A case study on TV applications

T. Claasen · 2002

Current computer architectures show a trend towards real time processing while current TV architectures become more flexible. None of them is capable of handling the new problems which are a consequence of new data formats for TV applications. A new architecture which combines concepts from computer and TV architectures is necessary. Coding will have a major influence on the type of data formats that will be used in the future. The new data format will show a mixture of data and control information at different levels of the hierarchy. As a consequence many different tasks with different timing constraints have to be executed. This will not be possible using one architectural style. On the contrary, many different styles with a different degree of programmability will be used.>
