An advanced course on software development environments

This paper will describe an advanced course on Software Development Environments. The paper will detail the content of the course and will discuss issues in the presentation of advanced and specialist courses in software engineering. 1. Introduction There is an increasing literature on software engineering education. This literature has however concentrated on overall curriculum issues, introductory courses and basic project work. Relatively little attention, with the notable exception of the work of the SEI Software Engineering Curriculum Project (Ford 1991), has been paid to advanced and specialist courses in software engineering suitable for graduate students. This paper describes, in detail, the course on Software Development Environments at Imperial College. It considers the particular issues that arise in the presentation of advanced and specialist software engineering courses.
