Function Approximation and Legendre Polynomials

A method of function approximation using Legendre polynomials for least mean square error is suggested. For the ideal low-pass filter characteristic this approximation of various orders has been obtained and plotted and compared with the Butterworth response of the corresponding orders. The method can also be used for approximation to an arbitrary response.
