The next generation of engineering environments will consist of two principal components: a toolset and a framework. Tools are automated mechanisms, such as editors and compilers. which aid in the development and maintenance of systems. A framework provides a common set of object management and user interface services that support the integration of tools to automate a large slice of the lifecycle. We have designed an object-oriented framework and implemented it using the Ada' programming language. It currently runs under \ax/VMS2 and sun-33. This paper presents an overview of the framework and its underlqing concepts for integrated project support. LVe also describe future plans for extending our framework's functionalitj.
