Development strategy for a technology intensive system

S. Sundaresh, Y.S.T. Raju · 2005

Development of high performance servo-drive systems for mobile weapon platforms demand complex multi-disciplinary engineering skills of tall order. The uncertainties in user acceptance, with longer development and trial evaluation lead time with no guarantee on the bulk production orders discourages competent large industries in taking up the development challenges of complex systems. This necessitates dependence on many smaller industries specialized in the various engineering skills needed for the complete system development. This paper describes development strategies that were adopted from the conceptual phase through the other phases of the project viz., design, development, manufacture, testing of assemblies, integration on the vehicle and trial evaluation that had led to the success of the development project.
