MEASURING FOREIGN LANGUAGE READING COMPREHENSION
Grant H. Henning · Language Learning · 1975
Seven correlates of reading comprehension were examined for predictive validity, difficulty, and discriminability. Twentyseven Iranian college students were administered a series of eight test batteries so that there was a repeated measure sample size of 178. Cloze‐recognition, synonym‐antonym selection, multiple‐choice sentence selection, question‐written response, and grammaticality of response predictors were examined at two levels of context difficulty. Intermediate difficulty synonym‐antonym selection (r =.768) and multiple‐choice sentence selection (r =.736) exhibited the highest correlations with the criterion.
