A bit-slice error-correction erasure-filling decoder for a (15, 11) Reed-Solomon code

A. Katsaros · International Journal of Electronics · 1987

Hardware Reed-Solomon decoders tend to be very complex and inflexible. On the other hand decoders based on ‘conventional’ 8 or 16-bit microprocessors offer flexibility but at low decoding speeds. In this paper a decoder using bit-slice elements is described, which is more flexible than hardware decoders and can achieve higher throughput than decoders constructed around conventional microprocessors.
