An adaptive spatial smoothing technique for beamforming in the presence of correlated arrivals

M. Elmaraazey · 1993 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems · 2002

An adaptive spatial smoothing averaging technique is presented which combines the directional constrained minimization of power algorithm (DCMP) with a weighted averaging approach in order not only to decorrelate highly correlated arriving sources but also to create deep nulls in the direction of correlated interferences as well. It is shown that the performance of the proposed method does not deteriorate as the standard subarray spatial smoothing does when additive sensor noise is increased. A comparison is given between the output signal-to-noise (SNR) ratios when the magnitude of correlation between the desired signal and the unwanted interference and the level of internal noise power are varied. Computer plots are provided.>
