A model for local/mobile radio communications with variable length packets
R. CLARK ROBERTSON, TRI T. HA · 2002
The authors present an analysis of the throughput of a local/mobile radio communications system using the ALOHA random access protocol with variable length packets. Because of the near/far effect, users near the base station typically have stronger signals than those farther away. This results in the packet capture phenomenon in which a packet captures the base station receiver when its signal-to-interference ratio exceeds some threshold. It is shown that the maximum throughput of the system is considerably higher than that of a conventional ALOHA system.>
