Enhanced differentially coherent subtractive interference cancellation receivers with multiple symbol differential detection

Neiyer S. Correal, B.D. Woerner · 2002

This paper examines the performance improvements achieved in AWGN channels by combining non-coherent subtractive interference cancellation with multiple symbol differential detection. The multiuser receivers considered in this study are the successive interference canceller, the parallel interference cancellation receiver, and the decision feedback receiver. Presented in this study is a comparison of the aforementioned differentially coherent multiuser receivers as they employ standard differential detection, multiple symbol detection, and Viterbi differential decoding. It is observed that consequential improvements are obtained by increasing the memory beyond one symbol and performing sequence estimation of the transmitted phases based on the decision statistics after multiuser detection.
