Self Encoded Spread Spectrum Communication with FH-MFSK

Stephen F. Fahey, Lim Nguyen · 2010

Self-encoded spread spectrum (SESS) is a novel communication technique that derives its spreading code from the randomness of the source stream rather than using a more conventional pseudo-random noise (PN) code for frequency translation. This paper proposes a SESS method enabling a random source stream to fast frequency hop a carrier while maintaining acceptable error performance compared to a non-SESS system. It has been shown through simulation that a SESS based frequency hopped system remains stable and can serve as the foundation of a practical SESS-FH system in the presence of jammers.
