Estimation of signal power parameter under binary quantized samples

A. A. Bizyaev, Aleksey G. Vostretsov · 2002

Summary form only given. The method, based on adding to the audio or video signal Gaussian wide-band noise, is widely used in modem digital audio and video systems for reducing the quantization errors and such effects as small amplitude signal clipping or loss during analog-to-digital conversion. Such systems have been referred to as systems with dither. Adding dither to the signal ensures a greater dynamic range for recording, however, the level of system noise will increase and the quality of weak signals remains reduced. This situation may be improved significantly if there is appropriate sampling in the processing of the signal, and dither composition analog-to-digital conversion is applied. The signal samples processing algorithm synthesis and analysis for systems with dither and binary quantized input data (i.e. in a system using a single-digit analog-to-digital converter) are presented in this work.
