The computational abilities of fixed random structures

John C. Lusth, E.A. Skaug · 2005

Quantum-dot cellular automata show great promise for fast computation with low heat generation. Unfortunately, previous research has shown that semiconductor implementations of these devices are quite sensitive to placement errors. In this paper, an alternate approach is discussed in which quantum-dots are placed (or grown) randomly and useful functions are discovered, rather than designed a priori.
