Abstract We have reviewed the comments and model results from M. Poddar and find both interesting. The differences in model geometry between the models used in his and our studies are significant. The lateral extent of both components of the anomalous structure, the reservoir and the cap, are much greater in our model in both absolute terms and the relative size of the cap to the reservoir; the anomalous bodies in our model are half again as deep as those in Poddar's model while the ratio in lateral extent between the caps of the two models is close to ten. The anomalous bodies of Poddar's model reside in a layered host where ours are hosted by a uniform half space. In addition to these model differences we have used different algorithms to simulate the earth's response. It is not surprising that there are differences in the responses of the models. Because of the differences in model structure we do not believe that electromagnetic scaling is a basis for discounting differences between the models.
