On the application of near-far resistant techniques to DS-CDMA systems

G. Di Vitantonio, F. De Ferrari · 2002

Cellular systems based on DS-CDMA are affected by the near-far problem, that prevents the mobile industry from fully exploiting the theoretical advantages in capacity of code division multiplexing. Several algorithms have been proposed to solve the near-far problem-the so called near-far resistant techniques. All of them present problems in their practical application, due either to their complexity or to their impossibility to fulfil the requirements of a real system. The authors have studied some of the proposed algorithms, trying to identify which of them are easier to implement and more adaptable to the constraints of practical CDMA systems. They have also run some simulations to compare different near-far resistant techniques and to obtain an estimate of the improvements they can provide in a real system.
