On efficient inversion in tower fields of characteristic two

This contribution presents an efficient recursive method for inversion over tower fields GF(2(n2/sup k/)) in terms of operations in GF(2/sup n/). A construction for such tower fields is provided, and an exact operation count for inversion is derived, which gives a surprisingly low asymptotic complexity.
