Users' bandwidth needs versus 155.520 Mbit/s broadband interface

Concerning the future B-ISDN, the bandwidth need of different economic sectors for a B-ISDN access is analysed and the impact on its access network is discussed. For that purpose broadband applications are investigated with respect to important traffic characteristics. It is shown, that more than 50% of the business users will cope with an ATM access capacity of less than 45 Mbit/s. In addition, an easy procedure to obtain traffic patterns for business users is presented.
