Mass storage requirements in the intelligence community
Tom Myers, ELIZABETH S. WILLIAMS · 1991
The long term storage of data has been a continuing concern within the supercomputer community. In fact, the supercomputer community has continually pushed the forefront of mass storage systems. Mass storage currently implies the storage of data in excess of 1 0 12 bits and it is not uncommon in this community to see requirements of over 1015 bits. We have developed a methodology for describing user requirements in a common format so that a number of workloads for a significant portion of the Intelligence Community can be compared easily. The common format is a list of questions, which includes data that is useful in modeling at a very high level. TIvo very diff erent but rep resentative workloads are presented. We have also identi fied areas of research and development in mass storage systems that are important to the Intelligence Community.
