Network Centric Designs in Sensor Networks
Anna Hác · Infotech@Aerospace · 2005
This paper describes design issues for network centric operations in sensor networks to support efficient information processing and secure communication. Sensor networks are deployed in environments where they may not be designed into a particular control path, and often very dynamic. Sensor nodes deposited in various places provide activity measurements. Together they form a dynamic, multihop routing network that connects each node to more powerful networks and processing resources. Networks of distributed microsensors are emerging as a solution for a wide range of data gathering applications. Deployment of large networks of sensors requires tools to collect and query data from these networks. Aggregates operations summarize current sensor values in part of or the entire sensor network. Wireless sensor networks use small devices equipped with sensors, microprocessor and wireless communication interfaces. This paper describes architecture and designs for network centric technologies in applications related to security and transportations systems. Communication, networking, energy, database and security solutions are discussed.
