Building an end-to-end TCP connection in a mixed wired-wireless network, involves the delicate equilibrium of flow control parameters which is severely affected by the channel conditions in the radio part and by the retransmission procedures used to improve reliability. As different versions of TCP have been introduced through the years, in this paper we report a comparison among some of these versions implementing an end-to-end TCP connection using Network Simulator (NS-2) with a final segment emulating the behavior of the UMTS system (UTRAN-FDD and TDD modes) with detailed description at the RLC layer. The lower sublayers are first modeled using an accurate implementation using Matlab® and then the error process at the PDU level is modeled and included in the NS-2 simulator.
