Report on the SIGMETRICS'98/PERFORMANCE'98 joint international conference on measurement and modeling of computer systems
Geoffrey M. Voelker · ACM SIGOPS Operating Systems Review · 1998
The SIGMETRICS ' 98/PERFORMANCE ' 98 conference was held at the new Monona Terrace conference center in Madison, Wisconsin.Monona Terrace had a wonderful view of the lake, but its orange, red, and yellow carpet was somewhat suspect. And, somehow, despite the numerous snacks, lunches, and the banquet, we managed to make it through three days in Madison without eating any cheese.Mary Vernon was General Chair of the joint conference, and Garth Gibson and Guy Latouche were the Program Co-Chairs.Along with the remainder of the executive and program committees, they organized an interesting conference that was well worth attending. This report was suggested by Carla Ellis as a distillation of the conference for interested SIGOPS members. As a result, it briefly describes the talks presented on topics of most interest to the SIGOPS community.I think that the bulk of the conference qualifies, and the report only omits talks from the Queueing session, the Device Models session, and the analytic Networks 3 session. The full text of all conference papers, including the two-page extended abstracts from the poster session, are at the conference web site at
