We discuss that dynamic switching between one-to-many download methods offers considerable performance advantages for one-to-many downloads; furthermore, we infer that the merging of unicast and multicast/broadcast approaches into a single transport protocol provides technical benefits for dynamic switching. Based on these observations, we present ongoing work on the implementation of our protocol for dynamic switching between one-to-many download methods. We introduce some of the finer solutions for the protocol, discuss its use of parity, and we highlight its realization within a Linux framework. Simulation shows the protocol to be an exciting and feasible solution for end-to-end downloads to large receiver sets, while analysis of the utilized coding technique shows it to be useful for downloads to wireless/mobile terminals.
