Simultaneous independent voice and data (sivd) in a distributed tactical network
C.J. Langford, Rebecca L. Martin · 2004
Incorporating simultaneous voice and data into existing communications architectures is an increasingly common objective. In the current SINCGARS tactical radio system, channel access coordination is distributed, with voice and packet data contending for exclusive access to the channel. This paper presents a low-risk, low-cost concept for enabling simultaneous independent voice and packet data within the existing SINCGARS architecture. Voice quality of service is improved, power consumption is reduced (for voice-only transmissions), and OPNET modeling results confirm significant improvements in data throughput, delay, and reliability.
