Link adaptation (LA) has been identified as a key technology for evolved GSM systems such as GPRS and EDGE. Previous work on LA has proven the benefits of the technology in coverage and quality. This paper presents a LA hardware implementation which allows real-time assessment of the perceived voice quality.
