A Man-Machine Interaction Technique on Velocity Dealiasing Based on MATLAB

Nan Li, Luan Li, Ming Wei, Xiaofang Pei · 2009

Velocity dealiasing is a crucial issue in quality control of Doppler weather radar data. Various automated methods have been developed to solve this problem. However, neither of them can be applicable to all situations since real velocity fields are very complicated. By contrast, man-machine interaction techniques can include human's wisdom and experience in dealiasing, and thus indicate their robust in application. MATLAB is a popular and powerful numerical computing environment, and with the integrated functions and toolboxes, it is very convenient and effective for users in many fields such as image processing. Based on MATLAB platform and image processing theory, a man-machine interaction technique and software on Doppler velocity dealiasing is introduced in this article. When the original image of a velocity field is given, the interface allows the user to line out the aliasing areas through some polygons with the mouse, and then ambiguity velocities involved in the polygons are unfolded by the program automatically. The operations and results show that it is a simple and reliable method for velocity dealiasing.
