Real-Time Trajectory Generation for Aircraft Avoidance Maneuvers

Rushen Patel, Paul J. Goulart, Varnavas C. Serghides · 2009

A direct multiple shooting optimization strategy for real-time trajectory generation is presented in the context of an anti-hijack system for civilian aircraft. Constraint objects, representing buildings or other critical infrastructure, are placed in the predicted flight path of the aircraft and a three degree-of-freedom nonlinear aircraft model is used to generate an avoidance trajectory. The strategy is shown to produce feasible avoidance trajectories with computation times viable for the real time application. A number of simulation cases are presented.
